The Golden Triangle I was impressed recently by the dialogue Charlie Rose had with Muhtar Kent, CEO and Chairman of Coca Cola Company who talked about the sustainability of non-profit organizations through partnerships that he called the Golden Triangle. Everyone has a different name for it, but the basic concept is Government, Business and Civil Society need to combine to create the best way of improving life on this planet.
Outcomes are the key to big time fundraising The head of the Global Fund was on the show as well –they are the bankers who support the global initiatives such as this one that Coke got behind. He talked about how donors get excited by “outcomes”; how they look to support initiatives that have the widest and most effective outcomes against pandemics such as HIV, or the big issue of clean water. Whether it’s the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation or the Clinton Global Initiative, the view is the same – looking for data, research, the broadest and best outcomes that show the investors that their money is really making a difference. This is often a daunting issue for smaller non-profits, but it needs to be reckoned with. There are many big foundations who fund these research projects so that the numbers can be shown to the rest of the donors. It’s helpful but expensive for the average non-profit.
I’d love to get input on how smaller non-profits can put together enough data in an inexpensive way that can help them show their results.
All best,
Irene
