Scaling Up
Here’s a little more on the innovative partnership with Coke:
Coca Cola Company has taught the Tanzanian government a system of delivery that comes from Coke’s experience of having 20 million points of sale every week all over the globe. It was an exciting venture that gets the heart of a fundraiser like me pumping with inspiration to make big changes. They’ve joined forces with a small business, DEKA, that has created a small solar battery powered water purifier that is part of centers being created in the developing world that include media and water centers run by women.
By 2025 2/3rds of the world’s population will have serious water issues. There is a huge need for clean power generation. They’re starting in Ghana and plan to go to Mexico and Paraguay and have 2000 centers up and running by 2014. This is “Scaling Up” – another important concept in the world of non-profits that smaller organizations need to focus on while doing all the other things they do on a shoestring basis.
